“Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” Hosts A Variety of Fundraising Events in October
OCEAN CITY, Md. – The American Cancer Society is “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” through a variety of fundraising events. The organization kicked off Breast Cancer Awareness month with a mahjong and pickleball tournament, aiming to spread awareness, and raise funds for treatment.
On Wednesday, Oct. 21st, The Pink Ribbon Golf Tournament, was held in Ocean Pines by LGPA Amatuers Eastern Shore. Staff Partner Jill Elliott of the American Cancer Society, explained that the long running tradition, has a large impact.
“This is their 30th annual year, and they are putting on this tournament today in memory of two of their former members who passed away from breast cancer.” Said Elliot. “And then we wrap it all up this Saturday at Ocean City at the boardwalk, starting at 8 a.m. with our Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. So all of the pink events that are happening in October are feeding into that.”
As the month wraps up, the organization aims to reach their established goal.
“So our goal for this year is $335,000.” Said Elliott. “And I am very happy to say that we’re at about $321,000 right now. That’s before today’s numbers come in and obviously before the walk on Saturday. So hopefully we will even exceed our goal. That’s our hope.”
