Gov. Meyer signs Millville Charter amendment bill
Frankford, Del. – On Wednesday, Governor Meyer signed House Substitute 1 for House Bill 376, legislation that reincorporates and updates the Charter for the Town of Millville in Sussex County.
Sponsored by Republican Sens. Ron Gray (District 38) and Gerald Hocker (District 20), the bill also amends the municipal election process to include an ultimate tie-breaking mechanism.
“They needed this bill because they did have a tie just a few years ago. And I understand that was some flip of the coin. That won’t happen now,” Hocker said. “They got a way to handle those tie situations and probably will never have another tie,” he joked.
The bill also “removes sections related to a Town-only assessment process, given the Town’s use of county assessments and adds a property tax cap of 3% of the total assessed value in the Town.”
