Fatal shooting under investigation in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Del. – An investigation is underway following a fatal shooting in Georgetown Monday evening.

Just before 8:30 p.m., Georgetown Police responded to the Dunbarton Apartments, where they located a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside an apartment.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the victim was a visitor at the apartment when a female knocked on the door. The victim answered and let the female in, at which point an unknown male suspect allegedly forced the apartment door open and shot the victim several times before fleeing on foot.

The victim was taken to an area hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries. The victim’s identification is being withheld pending notification to family members.

The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit assumed the investigation at the request of Georgetown Police. No suspect information is available at this time.
