U.S. Senator Carper visits CAMP Rehoboth, discussion to expand resources for LGBTQ+ community

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- U.S. Senator Tom Carper’s Sussex County Day tour lead him to CAMP Rehoboth to discuss more ways to support LGBTQ+ individuals in the first state.

For years, Senator Carper has been a major supporter of the organization’s efforts.

Friday afternoon’s talk included discussion on the up-tick in violence nationally for LGBTQ+ people, building connections with local law enforcement, and pushing for more support for youth in local school districts.

U.S. Senator Carper tells 47ABC, he’s hope to take what he’s learned to push for more legislation. “Our local and federal governments, our school systems can’t meet all of our needs in a society and we need to find others ways to do that. This is a non-profit that’s been formed for many years and provides a great service,” Sen. Carper said.  “This a non-profit that has a special kind of mission.”

Today’s discussion also included more ways the organization can broaden its outreach efforts to other parts of the Sussex County that need more support.
