First ever Salisbury Pride event is a go for June 2022
SALISBURY, Md. – After nearly five years of planning and rescheduling, the City of Salisbury is set to host its first ever LGBTQ+ pride event.
Executive Director of Salisbury PFLAG Mark DeLancey says COVID-19 forced organizers to put plans on hold several times. “It’s like walking into a restaurant, knowing what you want to eat, and then realizing that they’re out of it for two and a half years,” he said. “I’m super excited to be able to actually have this finally come to fruition. We’ve been planning this, logistically, for over five years.”
Salisbury Pride will consist of a pride parade, a festival, and live drag and musical performances. Early 90’s dance pop star Cece Penniston will be the headliner and grand marshal of the parade. There will also be performances by drag artists Vicky Fischer, Fheanix Fischer, Glitter Douglas, and Tisha Towers. Local R&B artist Jerome Kelly is also in the lineup.
DeLancey says pride isn’t just for members of the LGBTQ+ community. It’s a family-friendly event for all. “It’s an open invite to the entire community to go ahead and be part of the unified celebration or pride. A lot of people think that it’s just for the LGBTQ community, and it’s not,” said DeLancey.
The event will take place on June 25th, 2022. Until then, DeLancey says organizers are still looking for volunteers, vendors, sponsors, and parade marchers. To get involved, click here.
