Laurel advances to 1A state title game
'Dawgs move to first title game since 2014
LAUREL, DE- The Laurel Bulldogs football program advanced to the 1A state title game, defeating Indian River 33-0 on Friday night.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead off a rushing touchdown by Kaden Shockley. That lead was later doubled when Kylse Wilson added a score early in the second quarter. Shortly after Wilson’s score–a blocked punt would lead to another Laurel score on the ground by Kyler Weaver.
After scoring two touchdowns in a matter of three minutes, the ‘Dawgs special teams would strike again. Another punt mishap would give Laurel the ball at the IR 6-yard line with under 15 seconds to play before the half.
Shockley would find Javier White for a spectacular throw and catch on a fade route for another touchdown. With a 27-0 lead at the half, the Bulldogs would add one more touchdown in the second half.
The win catapults Laurel to their first state title appearance since 2014. They await the winner of Saturday’s Tatnall/St. Elizabeth game–and will compete in the 1A final on Saturday, December 11th at 6pm at the University of Delaware.
A win next week would be Laurel’s first state championship since 1991.
