‘Adopt A Block’ prepare for christmas giveaway in Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md- Charities across Delmarva are spending the night before Christmas gearing up to give out presents and holiday cheer to families in need on Christmas day. Mark Thompson of Adopt A Block tells us, his organization has collected over 200 presents, due in large part to donations from the Emmanuel Church in Salisbury. He tells us he and his wife have spent all of Friday organizing the presents to give out to households in the area, surprising families with presents.

“We deliver those gifts and kids don’t even know that they are coming, we go out and deliver food, and then a second group goes out with Christmas outfits on and we deliver Christmas gifts for children whose names we got back in October,” he said.

Thompson says the hundreds of presents they plan to deliver are only one part of their commitment to serving the transient and low-income communities in Salisbury.

“It’s gonna be over 200 presents and an additional 25 tomorrow, we are going door to door to surprise some people,” Thompson said adding ” This area was picked because it was low-income and high crime poverty years ago and what we have started to do is not just be a church that just goes out on special days but we go out every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the months going onto our 8th year.”
