Bennett boys soccer wins 3A state title
BALTIMORE, Md. – After a season that saw the Clippers claim the top overall seed in the 3A tournament, and a regular season without a defeat, the Clippers claimed the 3A state championship Friday night at Loyola University. They downed C. Milton Wright, 4-2, on penalty kicks.
The Mustangs had plenty of opportunities to break the scoreless drought in the second half, but could not break through the Clipper defense, led by keeper Jack Mitchell.
Mitchell kept the Mustangs out of the cage twice in penalty kicks, while his teammates made all four of their shots. JP Wright deposited the winning game in the fourth round of PKs.
“These guys, they battled so hard today, and we could’ve lost it a lot of different ways but they wouldn’t allow it. They wouldn’t allow it all season long,” said head coach Gabe Kane. “They get to leave without ever having to taste defeat their senior year. So, they can sleep on that for a long time.”
