“Not only did we make a comeback, we had an overall great summer this year:” Resort town says Summer 2021 was strong for business

DEWEY BEACH, Del. – Labor Day is the unofficial end of summer, and as the season wrapped up, we caught up with one beach town to see if they recovered from the pandemic sting.

Dewey Beach Town Manager Bill Zolper tells 47ABC the resort town made a major comeback this summer, even surpassing pre-covid numbers from 2019.

Many industries including food and hospitality remained strong due to the uptick in tourism. Despite this, the town was short of seasonal workers.

Yet, Zolper says they were still able to provide great experiences for locals and visitors. “Not only did we have a comeback, we had an overall great summer this year,” said Zolper.  “Next Year, we hope to have an even better summer than we had this year. What I mean is that we’ll have our seasonal employees back to full staff hopefully next year. Hopefully restaurants and hotels will have full staff as well.”

Zolper adds the season isn’t over yet as more activities are coming up.

The Dewey Beach End of The Season Party is Saturday, Sept 18th.
