Motorcyclist killed in Pittsville crash

PITTSVILLE, Md. – Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle in Pittsville.

We’re told the crash happened shortly after 11 p.m. Monday, on westbound Route 50 at Main Street Ext. Investigation revealed that a 1999 Suzuki being operated by 29-year-old Brandon Bello was traveling westbound on Route 50 at a high rate of speed and without any lights illuminated on the motorcycle. A vehicle being driven by 22-year-old Jacob Lapinsky was utilizing the crossover at Main Street Ext., crossing westbound Route 50 to continue north on Main Street. As Lapinsky crossed Route 50, Bello’s motorcycle hit the vehicle on the passenger side rear door. The collision forced Bello to be ejected from the motorcycle.

Bello was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say based on the area of impact, it appeared that Lapinsky’s vehicle was almost through the intersection when it was hitLapinsky did not suffer any injuries and refused medical treatment.

The investigation also indicates that Bello was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Troopers are continuing to investigate this crash.
