St. Michaels shuts out Snow Hill to capture their first regional title since ’18
BERLIN, MD.- In a 4-0 shut out of No. 1 seed Snow Hill, the St. Michaels Saints captured the 1A East Region II title. The Saints first regional title since 2018, a season in which St. Mikes made an appearance in the MPSSAA 1A state title game.
Since 2010, St. Michaels and Snow Hill have matched up in the 1A state playoffs five times, and all five times the Saints have come out on top. This year looked to be different, the Eagles held the number one seed and just shut out the Saints 13-0 just 15 days ago. It started out in favor of the Saints, the number two seed jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first four innings scoring a run in the first inning and then another in the fourth. The St. Michaels defense stood strong not allowing Snow Hill to touch third base to that point. It looked like that might change when the Eagles got runners on first and second in the fifth inning but the Saints D was unphased, finishing the inning with two quick outs.
St. Mikes got some insurance runs in the fifth inning to extend the lead to four and with the defense keeping up their dominance, the Saints held on for the 1A East Region II title with the 4-0 win over Snow Hill. St. Michael will await the reseeding of the final eight teams to see who they will play in the quarter finals on Monday.
