SWED announces marketing, advertising grants are available

SALISBURY, Md. – Salisbury-Wicomico Economic Development announced a new round of grants for local small businesses.

They’re going to be providing four new grant opportunities geared towards marketing and advertising. Executive Director of SWED David Ryan says they’re targeting restaurants, hotels, and nonprofits. But any small business can apply.

Ryan says the idea is to spread the word that the businesses are ready to welcome customers in, and give a kick start to the local economy. “These grants are targeting marketing and advertising purposes for hotels, restaurants, nonprofits, and those smaller entities that are really looking to go to an online sales platform. They can be used for other operating expenses, but really the primary purpose is marketing. But really the primary purpose is marketing – getting people back into the stores, getting people back into the restaurants,” said Ryan.

During the pandemic, SWED has distributed about $12.8 million to more than 12 hundred businesses in the area. Ryan says he’s not quite sure what future grant opportunities will look like. But he says they’ll design those grants around what is needed as recovery continues. “Let’s see what the recovery looks like. I think, for us, this is great timing to get people back into stores and restaurants and other businesses. We don’t know what the pandemic is going to do,” said Ryan.
