Central shuts out Lake Forest behind Layfield’s 16 strikeouts

FELTON, Del.- Behind 16 strikeouts from freshman ace Madge Layfield, the Sussex Central Golden Knights shut out Lake forest for the 4-0 win to move to 5-1 on the year. The loss drops Lake to 2-0.

After a scoreless first inning, the Golden Knights got the bats going in the second. Two doubles from Aryanna Briddell and Kaylee Verosko brought home two runs to give Central the 2-0 lead to end the second. Same score headed to the fourth until Briddell send her second hit over the fence for a homer, she had a game high three hits on the day. In the fifth, Katelyn Evick joined the club sending a homer over the left field fence to make it a 4-0 game headed into the sixth inning.

From there, the Knights turned to their freshman ace on the mound Madge Layfield. Layfield retired sixteen batters on the day as Sussex Central held on for the 4-0 win over Lake Forest.
