Live Green: Curbside Cow
FEDERALSBURG, MD– One local farm is bringing back the milk man, or in this case the milk ladies, to deliver farm fresh and sustainably harvested products to your front door. Check out this week’s Live Green with Curbside Cow.
Last March, Nice Farms Creamery in Federalsburg, Maryland was searching for a way to sell their sustainably sourced milk in a pandemic, which is what inspired Curbside Cow.
“There was a need for milk, for dairy. And we were like let’s reach out to families and bring them their milk. It ended up doing very well, to the point where we had to do some internal changes ourselves,” said Brandy Miller.
During this reconstruction period, the founders invested in a designated delivery vehicle, which reduces the carbon output from travel as the founders were able set a weekly delivery schedule and limit the amount of delivery runs.
“This is a way for us to give customers access to the local community without having to take up a lot of their time,” explained Jaclynne Miller.
Plus, they were able to partner with other local farms that align with their farm’s eco-conscious efforts for a sustainable Delmarva. Nice Farms Creamery also created their own carbon dioxide filtering ecosystem in their pasture, which is composed of a variety of plant species and enclosing shrubs, to ensure extra nutrients from their cows do not build up in surrounding waterways.
“Sustainable farms have always been the backbone of strong communities. Most people were farmers in America, now we’re down to a very small percentage. Most communities had farms and your farms had to be sustainable,” stated Jaclynne Miller.
By bringing fresh farm products to your front door, Curbside Cow is able to connect Delmarva’s communities with local, sustainable farms, showing Nice Farms Creamery, is an environmental pioneer in the journey of keeping Delmarva green.
Currently, Curbside Cow delivers to Federalsburg, Easton, Denton and Centreville. But, the owners tell us they are looking to expand their delivery routes. To find out more information, please visit their website.
