Bayside Football Preview: Queen Anne’s Lions

SALISBURY, Md- The Queen Anne’s Lions are coming into this unconventional season, in unfamiliar territory. For the first time in 25 years, Donny Graef won’t be on the sidelines as the Lions head coach.

Al Waters assumed the school’s first head coaching vacancy since 1995, and will replace Graef as the Lions new head man. After 15+ years as an assistant to Graef, and the previous two years, Waters says to don the green and gold as the lead man is a surreal feeling. “To be the head coach where I played for four years, where I was the assistant for like 16 years, to be back as the head coach, its unreal. Its a dream come true for me.”

Waters takes over the program in an unconventional time, with virtually no off-season program due to the pandemic. “We were told we couldn’t have contact with the kids. We’ve had seven or eight coaches meetings so that if this did happen, we’d hit the ground running.”

The Lions will look to improve upon 2019’s 2-7 record.

Queen Anne’s 2021 spring football schedule:

3/5- @ North Caroline

3/12- vs. Easton

3/19- @ Kent County

3/26- vs. North Caroline

4/1- vs. Kent Island

4/16- @ Kent Island
