OCEAN CITY, Md. – A former Ocean City police officer is out on probation after pleading guilty to child pornography charges earlier this year.

Jarrett “Jay” Wise was charged with fifty five counts in total, including possession of child pornography and distribution of it. In September, Wise pleaded guilty to three misdemeanor charges of possessing child pornography.

Last week, according to online court records, Wise was granted probation before judgment. That means if he completes his terms of probations, no convictions will be entered. Wise also will not be required to register as a sex offender.

The case was handled by the Dorchester County State’s Attorney’s Office as Wise previously worked in Worcester County. Dorchester County State’s Attorney William Jones says he did recommend that Wise be required to register as a sex offender.

Jones says he also he recommended a sentence that, in total, would have accounted for the time Wise had already spent behind bars, and would also include treatment and that sex offender registration as terms of his probation.
