Shore to Shore: Downtown Salisbury Businesses Host World Cup Watch Block Party

SALISBURY, Md. The World Cup is coming to downtown Salisbury, with two businesses ready to welcome fans for a block party. Next Friday, Bury Tavern and Roadie Joe’s will kick off the World Cup with a watch party hosted by the two local businesses.

Roadie Joe’s owner, Josh Elliott, said, “The big draws for this event are we have a 30-foot projector screen for watching the U.S. game itself, but then we’re going to have all kinds of activities and events for kids.”

Fans and children can enjoy a one-on-one personal arena, a dunking booth, juggling competitions, and giveaways.

“Jerseys, hats, scarves, and we actually have one competition that gives you a chance to win two tickets to a World Cup match,” Elliott said.

There will also be a lineup of food, drinks, and soccer-themed specials.

“We’ll also have Soccer Bowl punch specials and soccer margaritas and all that kind of fun stuff as well,” Elliott said.

Townsend added, “You will be able to get your drinks in Roadie Joe’s or Bury Tavern and carry them out on the street, watch the game on the huge projector street screen, and also walk around and enjoy all the activities downtown.”

Elliott and Bury Tavern owner Jordan Townsend are lifelong friends and die-hard soccer players who have attended two World Cup games. They said the excitement of the match is something Salisbury needs to experience.

“Everyone was there, just enjoying themselves, having a good time, celebrating cultures, different countries, things like that. It was really community-based and so much fun,” Townsend said.

With the World Cup only occurring once every four years, it’s the perfect time for children to get involved.

“We really want to emphasize that it is also very kid- and family-friendly. Lots of bubble stations and face painting, and events for little kids as well,” Elliott said.

Fans who have been eyeing their shirts are in luck.

“Oh, this merch gets to go out to the people. These were made for the event. There will be a limited stock, so make sure you get out and get your hands on one,” Townsend said.

The block watch party is Friday, June 12, at 5 p.m. “It’ll go until 9 p.m., and the game itself starts at 9 p.m. So, the hope is all the festivities will finish, and then everyone funnels down to the large 30-foot screen to watch the game together, to get that big community feel and the feel of being at the game,” Elliott said.
