Elevated walkway being constructed at Killens Pond State Park

FELTON, Del. – The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control will soon break ground on an elevated walkway at Killens Pond State Park. Thursday and Friday DNREC crews are working on bringing in construction equipment. The public boat ramp and parking lot on the south side of the pond will be closed Friday, and from Monday the 23rd until the completion of the project.

Community Affairs Coordinator for the Division of Parks and Recreation Shauna McVey says that this project will not only improve hiking and biking experience. It’ll also increase safety. “The project is going to allow trail users to walk the entire trail without going on to the DelDOT right of way, which will make it a safer experience for our visitors. Additionally there will be bump outs in the walkway that will allow anglers to safely fish,” said McVey.

Fishing is not allowed from the shoreline along Killens Pond Road during construction. DNREC says that during construction visitors should prepare to hear periods of very loud noise and vibrations from equipment. Construction is expected to be complete in April of 2021.
