Dover upsets Caesar Rodney for their third straight ‘Colonial War’ victory
CAMDEN, Del.- Behinid two touchdowns from Qualeak Bumbrey, the Dover Senators upset the undefeated Caesar Rodney Riders 24-13. The win is the first of the season for the Senators, while the loss is the first for CR.
It looked to be a great game from the start, the teams trading touchdowns on each of their first drives. From there, the scoring came to a halt after both teams traded punts and turnovers for most of the first half. Dover ended the nearly sixteen minute scoring drought with a 31 yard Jordan Moran filed goal to take a three point lead into the half.
In the second half, things started to really fall apart for the Riders. After giving up an opening drive touchdown to Qualeak Bumbrey from one yard out, the Rider offense just couldn’t get anything going. A blocked punt recovered inside their own five yard line, and two lost fumbles to start the half put CR in a huge hole down ten. On their only first drive that they were able to get a few first downs ended in a punt leading to another Bumbrey score to make it a 24-7 deficit. The Riders were able to get another score on the board but it was too late as Dover upset Caesar Rodney 24-13 for their first win of the season.
Dover will look to keep the momentum and get another win when they host Polytech next Friday at Noon. The Riders return to the field coming off their first loss of the season when they travel to Lewes to take on Cape Henlopen.
