Scarecrow competition coming to Rehoboth Beach

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – It’s time to get into the Halloween spirit!

The Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce is hosting a scarecrow decorating contest for businesses in the area, and then shoppers, visitors, and residents can vote on their favorite scarecrow.

Businesses interested in participating can contact the Chamber of Commerce, and then they’ll receive a number to place on their scarecrow and that’s how people can vote.

Carol Everhart, the President of the Chamber, says they really want to see businesses get creative. She adds that with so many cancellations happening in the area because of covid, this is a way to still draw people in and keep the Halloween spirit alive.

“They want to come, they’re hoping that something is going on, so whether it’s scare crows, a little bit of jazz going on, or some other entertainment, we can’t do a festival, but there’s nothing keeping businesses from doing small events in their venue,” she said.

Everhart says on November 6 the top three scarecrows will win a Sea Witch memorabilia package as a prize.

Businesses interested in entering the competition can contact the Chamber of Commerce starting on September 28.
