Traffic Stop In Dover Leads To Discovery Of Two Firearms

DOVER, Del– On Sunday, Delaware State Police arrested 23- year- old Jaquan S. Brooks and 25-year-old Deaundre A. Simmons after a traffic stop led to the discovery of two firearms.

Police say the incident occurred at approximately 12:14 p.m., when a trooper saw a green mazda driving on Charles Polk Road.

The trooper made contact with both Brooks and Simmons when he saw trace amounts of marijuana and several half smoked marijuana cigarettes inside the car.

Police say the trooper saw the handle of a handgun in Brooks’ pocket.

Brooks and Simmons were taken into custody without incident.

Brooks was found with an unloaded handgun hidden in his shorts pocket while Simmons was also found with a loaded handgun hidden in his shorts pocket.

They both were taken back to Troop 3 where they were charged.

Brooks was charged with the following:

Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon A Firearm, Possession of a Deadly Weapon By Person Prohibit Who Also Possesses Controlled Substance, Consume Marijuana Personal  Use Quantity, Driving While Suspended or Revoked, Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Failure when Moving Right, Left or Turning to Signal.

Brooks was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released after posting $3603.00 secured bond.

Simmons was charged with the following:

Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon A Firearm, Possession of a Deadly Weapon By Person Prohibit Who Also Possesses Controlled Substance, Consume Marijuana Personal  Use Quantity, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Simmons was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $2551.00 secured bond.
