Dover continues their incredible season with huge comeback over Smyrna

SMYRNA, Del.- Behind 27 points from Elijah Allen and 17 from Eden Davis, the Dover Senators completed a 14 point comeback vs Smyrna for the 76-69 win.

Riding a seven game win streak and standing first atop the Henlopen, the Senators came into this one with a target on their back. The Smyrna Eagles looked to be the first Henlopen team to knock off Dover since February of 2018 and they had the resume to back it up. An eight game win streak and only a four point loss at Dover earlier in the season made the Eagles a top opponent for Dover.

The Eagles started out hot, a seven point run to open the game helped them to a 19-10 lead to end the first quarter. They looked unable to do wrong, going on runs of eight or more a few time in the second quarter to take a seven point 34-27 lead at the half. Nashon Sylvester led the Eagles with nine first half points, Elijah Allen led all scorers with thirteen for the Senators.

To start the second half, the Eagles looked like they were going to put this one away, Sylvester hitting a couple of threes and tough lay ups to get the crowd on their feet and the Eagles ahead thirteen midway through the third. But, Elijah Allen and Eden Davis kept Dover in the game, getting them within at least two a few times in the second half. Every time the Senators cut it close, Smyrna went on another run and with just over two minutes to play in the third the Eagles led by eleven. Just like they’d done all game, the Senators cut it close to end the quarter making it a five point, 55-50 deficit. Eden Davis and¬†Dymear Yelverton combined for three 3’s in the third for Dover.

In the fourth quarter, the Eagles extended their lead to seven with 4:28 to play in regulation. From there, the Senators went to work. Carving up the defense, the Dover offense cut it to one with 1:19 to play and with 40.4 seconds to play Elijah Allen pulled up for a short jumper and drained it to give the Senators their first lead of the game. Smyrna never retook or tied the game after that as Dover completed the comeback to win 76-69.
