Lewes woman and daughter reunite through online DNA test

LEWES, Del. – A Lewes resident will be spending Thanksgiving with her daughter for the first time in almost 50 years thanks to an online DNA test.

Sandra Derr recently met up with her daughter Kristy for the first time since Kristy was born in 1967. Sandra took a DNA test with 23 and Me to learn more about her medical history. But she never expected to be matched with her daughter who was given up for adoption. The two finally met in person earlier this year and Sandra says she feels like her life has come full circle.

“You place a baby for adoption and you never think you’ll ever know where they went or anything,” says Sandra Derr. “I know she’s turned out to be what I consider a wonderful, honest caring person. And I’m happy about that, I’m really happy about that.”

Sandra says she’s also helped connect her daughter, Kristy, with her biological father. Sandra and Kristy will be spending Thanksgiving together in North Carolina.
