Residents clean up litter around Pocomoke

POCOMOKE CITY, Md. – Dozens of people got their hands dirty in Pocomoke City, cleaning up litter across the town on Saturday.

The event, called Mission Clean Up, is the work of the town’s Beautification Commission. While it’s the commission’s first project organizers say more than 30 people showed up to help. Groups of people were assigned to different areas like Cypress Park or specific streets with a lot of litter. Town leaders tell 47 ABC they’re hopeful this effort will create a sense of unity.

“I cannot say enough about this community effort. I mean it’s brought the community together and we’ve gone in areas where most people wouldn’t attempt to even go in and clean. So I’m past proud. I’m proud to be a part of this organization I really am,” says Esther Troast, councilwoman for Pocomoke City’s 5th District.

Organizers say volunteers collected more than 50 bags of garbage from across the town. They’re hoping to host a clean up event every other month to beautify the area and make residents proud of Pocomoke.
