Bucs push thru in overtime to top Parkside, claim Bayside crown

STEVENSVILLE, Md- The Kent Island Buccaneers field hockey team defeated Parkside 2-1 in overtime to capture the 2019 Bayside Championship on Wednesday.

After an early goal was wiped off the board, the Bucs struck again later in the first half. Megan Carpenter saw a ball into the circle and finished with a reverse shot for score. The Rams would answer right back, when four minutes later Miranda Mears played a ball into the Kent Island circle. After a save by KI goalie Allie Cimaglia, junior Grace Henslee knocked in the rebound for the equalizer. The teams would enter halftime tied at one.

After no scores in the second half, the teams would move to overtime. In the OT, both teams would have ample chances, with Cimaglia and Parkside keeper Kaitlin Cashman registering excellent saves. With 1:06 remaining in OT, the Bucs would create a breakaway. The ball would find the stick of Ella Kaufman for the game-winning goal.

Both teams now move to the MPSSAA playoff tournament.
