Delmar shuts out Cape, remains unbeaten in battle of defending champions

Wildcats still yet to be scored on this season

DELMAR, De- The defending Division II state champion Delmar

field hockey team improved to 5-0 on the season, shutting out reigning Division I champ Cape Henlopen 4-0 on Tuesday afternoon.

Delmar got the scoring started early, when Josie Hollamon fired a rocket past the keeper just 1:43 into the game, giving the home team a 1-0 lead. The ‘Cats would take a 2-0 lead with 14:47 left in the first half when Ella Shockley finished off a shot off an assist from Logan Walls.

With a 2-0 halftime lead, Delmar continued their offensive assault. In one of their 18 corners on the afternoon, Morgan Bradford got behind the defense and deflected the third score of the game in for Delmar. Shockley would add a second with 7:32 left in the game to complete the scoring.

Delmar visits Laurel on Thursday, while Cape Henlopen (5-1) hosts Milford on the same afternoon.
