Cape falls to St. George’s in season opener

LEWES, Del.- After tying the game at 14 to begin the second half, the Cape Henlopen Vikings were outscored 28-0 en route to a week one loss. The Vikings start the season 0-1 for the second consecutive season.

The Hawks were off to a hot start, forcing a three and out and then returning the punt for a touchdown. 45 yards and the opening score for Givonni Sanchez to give Tech the lead but the Vikings would respond. A long drive ending in a three yard Jaden Davis touchdown and extra point, Cape up one.

On their first offensive snap, the Hawks would regain the lead. A 55 yard Lamar Wright scamper to the end zone ended the first half with a 14-7 St. Georges lead.

On the opening drive for the Vikings, Cape would cap off an 11 play drive with a play action Henry D’Ambrogi rollout for the equalizer just five minutes into the half.

Just as the momentum had shifted to Cape, it shifted back to the Hawks. Next offensive play for St. G’s, QB Nyaire Wilson connected with Terrence Trapp for an 83 yard bomb for the score. After a Cape punt, they’d get another score. Wilson again, this time to Riley Dean to go up two scores as Cape falls to St. Georges Tech 42-14 to open the season.

Cape will look to get win one of the season next Friday when they travel to William Pen to take on the Colonials.
