Bennett’s big second half propels them past Kent County
SALISBRUY, Md.- Outscoring the Trojans 22-0 in the second half, the Bennett Clippers move to 1-1 on the season. The loss drops Kent County to 1-1.
It was a back and forth first half, with Kent County scoring first on a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown. Bennett would answer on the next two Clipper drives. A 50 yard Jourdan Mitchell touchdown run to tie it up at 7 and then another long touchdown run by Takai Davis would give Bennett the 14-7 lead. Just before the end of the first quarter, Kent QB Thomas Goldsborough would pound it in from two yards out to cut it to a one point lead to end the quarter.
Bennett would get another score in the second quarter, Takai Davis for his second touchdown of the game. In Kent County’s final two drives of the first half, they would get into the end zone. First from RB Will Ashmore from 70 yards out and then Ty Wilson from 60 yards. The Trojans would take a 26-21 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Clippers would start to catch fire. Micah Reddish getting in the mix, wearing down the defense for two long touchdowns in the third quarter. A special moment for Bennett sophomore QB Sam Blackmon, throwing his first career touchdown to Nolan Shearer as the Clippers shut out the Trojans in the second half and take it 43-26.
Bennett will look to make it two in a row when they travel to Onley to take on Nandua next Friday at 7 pm. Kent County will try and get back in the win column when they take on Kent Island next Friday at 7 pm.
