Caesar Rodney boys lacrosse falls one game short of DIAA title game in loss to Sallies
BEAR, Del.- After earning the ten seed in the DIAA Boys Lacrosse bracket, the Caesar Rodney Riders fell to No. 3 Sallies 12-5 in the semifinal round.
The game that was postponed from Wednesday due to inclement weather started out with in the Sals favor. The number three seeded team opened up with a four goal lead to end the first quarter. The stout defense of Sallies limited the shot choice for CR, only facing two shots by the Riders. The Riders came out in the second with a three goal run behind junior Sean Wooleyhand, the long pole Evan McCleary and attack man Tyler Morris to cut the lead to one. The Sals though, put an end to that run with three goals of their own to take the 7-3 lead at the half.
The second half turned out to be a carbon copy of the first, the Riders were able to put two more goals on the board (Wooleyhand and James Cava). Sallies just too fast for the Riders as they were able close out the game with five second half goals. The Riders end their great season with a 10-5 record, fifth best in the state, and just one game away from playing in the state title game.
