Colonel seals first Bayside baseball championship since ’15

SALISBURY, Md.- Scoreless until the 6th inning, a Nathan Roth, RBI squeeze bunt gave Colonel Richardson a 1-0 win over Mardela in the Bayside Conference championship.

A pitchers duel for the first five innings, Roth laid down a rare, “suicide squeeze,” to score Jackie Zebron for the only run of the game.

In the lowest scoring Bayside championship since 2015 (which Colonel also won 1-0), Ethan Peterman of Mardela and Jamison Covey of Colonel shined on the mound.

Covey went the distance, allowing just two hits, while Peterman went 6.2 innings, striking out five and giving up four hits.

Up next is the 1A East regional for both Mardela and Colonel. The Colonels (19-0) will be the #2 seed in the Section I bracket, and the Warriors (15-7) drew the #1 seed in the Section II bracket.
