Two arrested in connection to apartment complex shooting
SMYRNA, Del. – Smyrna Police arrested two people on Monday following an investigation into a shooting incident that took place last week at the Sunnyside Village apartment complex.
Investigation revealed that on April 18th, 28-year-old Cardin Qualls and a person living on Dairy Drive became engaged in a verbal argument that quickly escalated when Qualls reportedly left and returned with a handgun, firing shots at the occupants of the home. Qualls then fled the scene with a small child in his vehicle who witnessed the incident.
Through further investigation and with assistance of neighbors and witnesses, search warrants were obtained for Qualls’ home and vehicle as a result of this incident. While attempting to execute these search warrants, the suspect’s wife, 30-year-old Tynequa Qualls tried to prevent investigators from collecting evidence. As a result, she was also arrested, during which she resisted officers’ attempts to put her in a secure holding area.
Cardin Qualls was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, seven counts of reckless endangering first degree, terroristic threatening, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal mischief. He is currently being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution on $83,100 cash only bond, pending a future court hearing.
Tynequa Qualls was charged with hindering prosecution and resisting arrest, and was later released on her own recognizance.
