POLICE: Traffic stop leads to discovery of drugs

DAGSBORO, Del – Police say a Laurel man was charged after a Delaware State Police trooper found marijuana in his car during a traffic stop on Friday afternoon.

At approximately 1:26 PM on Friday afternoon, a car was pulled over near Adams Road, just south of Bunting Road in Dagsboro.

Police say the car failed to stop at the interection of E. Diamond Street and Power Plant Road.

While speaking with the driver, authorities reportedly detected an overwhelming odor of marijuana coming from inside the car.

During the search, police say 279 baggies of heroin, with a total weight of 1.953 grams, 1.38 grams of marijuana and $1,771 dollars in suspected drug proceeds were found inside the car.

The driver 24-year-old Devontay D. Jones, of Laurel was charged with the following:

Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance
Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Tier 1 Quantity
Maintaining a Drug Property
Tampering with Physical Evidence
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (3 counts)
Possession of Marijuana
Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign

Jones was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #3 and then committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $35,500 dollar secured bail.
