Big second half gives Bennett the three goal win over QA

SALISBURY, Md.- Down one at half, the Bennett Clippers used a big second half from the offense to beat Queen Anne’s 10-7. With the win the Clippers improve to 3-1 on the year. The Lions fall to 1-3.

Just thirty seconds into the game the Clippers would strike first. Alex Sewel netted the games first goal to give Bennett the lead but the Lions would answer quickly. Will Colburn on the assist from Justin Lewis gets the bouncer off the grass and past the keeper to tie it up at one. The Clips would take a 2-1 lead as the second quarter began. Luke Nestor sent a shot on the run bouncing off the ground and to the back of the net. Just a few possessions later, Lane Farro getting the pass from Nolan Shearer and sends it top shelf right corner to extend the lead to two.

The Lions would cut into that lead once again, Gavin Iens on the free run bounces it past the keepers feet for the goal. Jump ahead to just 35 seconds to half and QA looking to head into the half with a tied game. Justin Lewis from in front of the cage sends it just over the goalies head for the equalizer. Just 15 seconds later, after a personal foul on Bennett the Lions would get chance to take the lead on a free possession. Will Colburn gets his second goal of the game to give QA the one goal advantage at the break.

Second half and the Clippers came out firing, its the Nestor brothers going to work. Coming around the cage, Cole gets the behind the back pass to his brother Luke and he taps it in for the goal. The teams would trade goals with the third quarter ending with Bennett leading 8-6.

The Lions would cut into the lead a little in the fourth with another goal from the Colburn, his third of the game to cut the Clipper lead to just one with under 10 minutes to play. From there the Clippers would cushion their lead. Nolan Shearer getting the assist this time from Vinnie Gerrior and nets his only goal of the game. Then the final dagger came from Lane Farro who netted his second goal of the game as Bennett defeats Queen Anne’s 10-7.

The Clippers will look to make it three in a row next Wednesday when they travel to Cambridge to take on the Vikings. The Lions will try to right the ship a little when they travel to Dover to take on Caesar Rodney out of Delaware.
