Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum completes Master Plan to expand

The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is trying to preserve it's nautical history through an expansion.

This museum in St. Michaels has finally completed their new Master Plan. The first phase will create new exhibitions and a library. From there, they will add a new education building.

We're told in just the last year, there's been a 40% increase in visitors. The museum sees about 80,000 people and that's why this Master Plan was crucial, in order to keep up with the growth.

President Kristen Greenaway says, "We have so many more activities especially in education, which is the focus of our mission and growing exhibitions. We need to do this. We have to do this, otherwise we will not sustain the growth that we are going through."

Construction for Phase One should start next May.

As for now, the museum is hosting a community forum on June 19, 2018. They will reveal the plan and have it open for comments.
