high school knows that — his invention is already in stores. 47 abc’s julian sadur caught up with him today — and spoke with him about it — and the salisbury program that helped make his invention a reality. track fourteen year old parkside student r-j batts – is showing me his invention – which helps people in the kitchen – an invention his dad – a chef – inspired. he came home with a really bad cut one day and he had to get stitches that day and i decided that needed to stop and he couldn’t get anymore cuts like that so batts came up with tip tough an invention that makes sure your fingers dont get cut while youre slicing your food, but batts says he didnt know what to do with his invention until salisbury’s yea program came along, which stands for young entrepreneurs academy it helped me through to how to learn how to make a business and how to form it because we had no idea how to continue from that sketch track batts completed the six month program through the salisbury area chamber of commerce this past may — and already has sold over 100 tip toughs through local shops and online sales. as for the program — he said it was hard work – but worth it. and although 14 years old may seem young to start your own business – program director sophia smecker says it’s just the right age to start chasing your dreams. these students they have the drive, they have the motivation, they have the passion now so why not harness that energy while you’re in middle or high school track the program accepts kids grades sixth through twelve – applications to get in are due september thirtieth to the chamber of commerce. batts encourages all who might be interested to apply – because as he says… it’s a lot to juggle but it’s also awesome becuase just to go up to friends and be like yeah i have my own business at 14, actually i was just in the cafeteria and they were like you have your own business and i was like yeah track julian sadur, 47 abc. batts says he’s already been contacted about his product by companies like as seen on tv. if you’d like to catch him locally – batts will be doing demonstrations at the ace hardware in ocean city this saturday at 10 a-m and then the following saturday at the ace hardware in salisbury. to hear more about batts story – just logon to 47-abc-dot-com. in salisbury a local group called the fenix youth project incorporated
