Delaware republican caucus supports women’s clubs

Alana Keeley says, “I think any woman has experienced things and comments that were demeaning, dismissive, or prejudiced.”
Keeley is president of the Sussex County Republican Women’s Club; one of three organizations in Delaware that feel they were verbally attacked on a local radio show based on their gender.
Some of the comments made include: “They were pushing that we need a woman in there.” “Women they like to put on that they’re the poor picked on victim that they’re even worse at than we are.” “They’re far more emotional and tend to have more mood swings that we do.”
Apparently during this radio show, the host as well as callers claimed the women’s groups were sexist, particularly for endorsing Mary Spicer. Spicer was running for chair of the Sussex County GOP Committee.
Keeley goes on, “Our organization decided to endorse her based on her qualifications, leadership, and resume; not because she’s a woman.”
According to Billy Carroll, who ended up winning that chair. Three of the men who called in to the station making controversial comments are members of the Sussex GOP Executive Committee.
Carroll tells 47 ABC he supports all three groups, The Sussex County Republican Women’s Club, the Delaware Federation of Republican Women, and the Seaford Republican Women’s Club. Keely says she expected that kind of support.
Keeley says, “I mean the good news of it is we’re talking about a small percentage of people. I was very confident that the leadership would stand up.”
The Delaware Republican Caucus also stands by the women’s groups saying in a statement Friday:
“We, as Delaware State Senators, do not condone, support, or subscribe to the opinions of the callers or the host. These comments are unacceptable and not representative of our views of the roles, capabilities and potential of women, nor do they align with our fundamental beliefs as Republicans. Focus should be placed on working together to come up with solutions to common problems that we all face.”
The chairman of the Sussex GOP Executive Committee says an advisory board will be looking into the three members that made the comments about the women’s clubs.
