New Salisbury basketball league to kick off

The City of Salisbury can expect a new outdoor basketball league this summer. Community activist, Jermichael Mitchell, has been meeting with community members to finalize last minute details about bringing a league to the Doverdale neighborhood.
Mitchell tells us the league will have participants play games at least twice a week and will be accepting children from third grade up to high school. There will be three subdivisions in the league where participants will be divided by age groups. Mitchell says this will provide a positive outlet for local youth to stay busy during the summertime and best of all it would be completely free.
“Basketball is one of the biggest drawing tool in our city. We try to use that tool to bring our kids in a peaceful manner and give them a safe environment to enjoy themselves,” says Mitchell.
Mitchell tells us registration will begin in the next 2-3 weeks and games are expected to kick off by late May. All games will be played at Doverdale Park as long as weather permits. Mitchell is also looking for vendors and people willing to volunteer their time as coaches.
