ELLENDALE, Del. – The Delaware State Police (DSP) are investigating multiple shootings that occurred on Halloween, including one in Ellendale.

Just before midnight on Oct. 31, DSP posted a message to their social media channels saying they were on the scene of a shooting incident in the area of North Old State Road and Beach Highway. The road was closed and the scene was declared as active, with a reported heavy police presence on the scene.

On Sunday morning, Governor Matt Meyer issued a statement condemning gun violence, referencing the aforementioned shooting in Ellendale, as well as a shooting in Newark on Main Street.

“No family should have to receive the call that someone they love has been shot. Today, people in Newark and Ellendale are facing pain and fear that no one should have to endure,” Meyer’s statement read, in part. “My heart is with those injured, their loved ones and every Delawarean who has been impacted by these tragedies.”

Governor Meyer confirmed that DSP was working alongside Newark Police to investigate the shooting that occurred near the University of Delaware campus, in addition to investigating the shooting in Ellendale.

No information about the Newark shooting has been publicly made available by DSP at this time, but information from the University of Delaware indicates that six individuals were shot and transported to local hospitals.
