Attorney general raises eyebrow to extended auto warranties

A lot of folks have been bombarded recently with phone calls,  emails, and physical mail about getting an extended vehicle warranty. Maryland Attorney general, Brain Frosh, put out a press release today urging consumers to be wary of such offers.

Frosh says the marketing mail will appear to be an important  notice from the consumers car dealership or auto manufacturer — something to the extent of “FINAL NOTICE: Expiring Warranty” with a toll free number. Frosh says when considering an extended warranty, or any mail solicitation for that matter, always insist of getting the complete terms and conditions of your agreement in the form of a written contract before you agree to sign on.

Adding you should never take the information over the phone or through a mailing service for value. The smartest way to go about dealing with your auto warranty is to call the dealership or manufacturer directly, before making any moves that you think may be saving you a few bucks.
