Rehoboth Beach police are investigating an accident that happened just after 6 pm Saturday, involving a truck and several other vehicles.

As a result, five people were transported to Beebe Health Campus for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the pick-up truck was one of those treated, as well as a 16 year old. No pedestrians were struck by any vehicles.

Saturday, a pick-up truck collided with another vehicle traveling westbound on Rehoboth Avenue.

The driver of the truck was a 45 year old Middletown, Del. man who was attempting to back out of a parking space along the north shoulder of Rehoboth Avenue east of Second Street.

The man lost control of the truck and ran into two vehicles crossing the intersection of Rehoboth Avenue and Second Street and four parked cars after he attempted to flee the scene, as well as a curb and bike rack.

The pick-up truck struck a pole and finally came to rest on the sidewalk along the north side of Rehoboth Avenue west of Second Street.

Police suspect alcohol to be a factor in the multi-vehicle crash.

Rehoboth Avenue will be closed Sunday due to the eight vehicle accident.

Police continue to investigate the incident and no charges have been filed.
