Family pushing for answers in Lewes missing persons investigation

LEWES, Del. – A missing person’s investigation is underway in Lewes, and the family is desperately searching for answers. Police say 46-year-old Woodrow “Woody” Dickerson went missing back on October 7th.

Dickerson’s wife, Trish, tells 47ABC it was a normal morning. “I leave for work very early. We said our goodbyes. We said ‘I love you’s’ and that was the last time I saw him. I came home that afternoon and I noticed his truck wasn’t here, which is unusual,” she said.

Trish says when she returned home that afternoon, she found a letter Woody had left for her. She says in the letter, Woody wrote that he was depressed, and was saying his final goodbye. The next morning, Trish found Woody’s maroon Ford F150 at his mother’s house. She says the license plates had been taken off.

Meanwhile, police were just starting their investigation. “There was a couple leads, but I’m not sure it was him. It was clothes he doesn’t usually wear. I did find his truck at his mom’s house. She wasn’t aware it was there,” said Trish. “I don’t feel that this is your typical gold alert. This is somebody who wrote a letter, who basically said in certain words that he was going to take his life.”

Delaware State Police issued a Gold Alert shortly after Woody was reported missing. DSP says now, they’re working any lead they can to find Woody. “The first few days our troopers had responded to different locations for reports of Mr. Dickerson being seen,” said Master Corporal Gary Fournier. “We rely heavily on the victim’s families to help us out. Obviously the victim’s families know where their loved ones go, their daily routines. They know their habits.”

Trish says she has been working closely with detectives. She adds that she hopes police will take a closer look at the woods around Woody’s mother’s property. Police confirmed with 47ABC they will be looking into that soon, as well as looking at the mother’s house. “The family wants to know so we can help or look or whatever. We ride around all day every day, and it’s very stressful when you just ride, and ride, and ride and have no idea where you’re looking,” said Trish.

Anyone with information on Woody’s whereabouts is asked to call Delaware State Police Troop 7 at (302) 644-50-20.
