Wesley Football Faces Hobart College on Saturday
DOVER, De. — Wesley College's fourth ranked football team is making it's six-straight appearance in the NCAA Division III football quarterfinals. On Thursday, they held their last practice of the week before taking on No.7 ranked Hobart College. And so far, the Wolverines have streamed through the playoffs.
“We just, we are confident in one and other this is the best team I have played with in all my four years. I feel confident. I like we are ready you know. We all work together as a team in order to stay up,” said senior corner back De'Vaughn Trader.
And they do stay up, in points. In the past two playoff games the Wolverines have a combined 111 points on offense. Almost all those points coming in the first half alone.
A lot of that has to do with their quarterback Joe Callahan who is breaking records. But the other eye-opening stat is that the Wolverines defense has allowed only seven points.
“They've played very well. We have read our keys well and we've played good sound fundamental football. I guess I have to check back with you on Saturday afternoon, if we are still shutting people out. Then we are go going to feel real good about life,” said head coach Mike Drass.
Luckily for Wesley, they've had home field advantage throughout the playoffs and will face the Statesmen on Saturday, who have no lost a game this season. This team knows getting into the NCAA D3 tournament is all about advancing no matter who you face on the field.
“We know Hobart is a strong team and it's going to take our best effort to win,” said Drass.
Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. on Saturday.
