30-year-old pedestrian killed in Newark

Delaware State Police say drugs and alcohol are being considered as factors in a fatal crash that killed a pedestrian.       

Police say 30-year-old John A. Riley of Newark was crossing Delaware Route 4 in Newark when a car hit him Wednesday evening. Riley, who had not been using an officially designated crosswalk, was pronounced dead at the scene.      

The driver of the car, identified as 19-year-old Chase Urban of New Castle, stayed at the scene. He was not injured.

Police say drugs and alcohol use by Riley were being considered as factors.
