Longwood Gardens for Holiday gift giving

As you think about what to get for that person who has absolutely everything, we have a couple suggestions to make.

An “experience” can make the perfect gift when shared by someone you care about. If that person loves, flowers, plants, the outdoors and/or nature, a day at Longwood Gardens can be a perfect choice. Weather need not be a significant concern if you remain a bit flexible.

If you start your tour in mid-afternoon with the Main Conservatory (indoors), you can count on a couple hours depending on the level of interest. After all that walking, it’s nice to cross the overhead walk-way to the restaurant and sit in the windowed dining area feasting on a wide variety of menu items ranging from Longwood’s renowned cream of mushroom soup to a glass of cabernet sauvignon in front of a roaring fireplace, enjoying the inside and outside views. After a bit of rest and nourishment, it’s time to think about getting on the move again.

It should be about dusk by now and the more than a half-million outdoor lights are coming on. Check your maps for the schedule of fountain displays and head outside for more out-of-this-world experiences. This time of year, you have hours you can stroll along and admire the sights before the Gardens close. Check your schedule to be sure to allow a bit of time to check out the marvelous gift shop before heading home.

If an “experience” isn’t a possibility, think about a gift of membership. There are many levels of involvement, something for virtually any pocket book ranging from $30 for a student to several hundred for Signature Membership Levels. The benefits of membership are many including unparalleled access, free offerings and exclusive discounts. There are also Bring Friends Packages available. For details visit www.longwoodgardens.org.
