UPDATE: DE fugitive identified after Newport News barricade

An update to the story we brought you Wednesday out of Newport News, Virginia, involving a fugitive wanted in Delaware.

A spokesman for the Delaware US Marshals Service tells 47 ABC they have identified that man as Jawan Colson, who was wanted by Delaware State Police and the Georgetown Police Department on various charges, including rape.

Colson was reportedly pronounced dead yesterday following a barricade situation at a motel in Newport News. Reports from the scene say the man was found unconscious in the room and was not harmed by the SWAT team.

Officials say it is unclear why he was in Newport News, but they believe he does have some sort of family or friends in the area.

Authorities are currently waiting on the medical examiner for the cause of death.
