Mayor Ireton receives response from Safran

In a letter addressed to Mayor James Ireton, Safran USA President and CEO Peter N. Lengyel says that Labinal is “seeking ways in which might allow some LPS employees to remain in Salisbury to provide technical support to our customers.”

Mayor Ireton says he is aware that Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) has talked with company representatives to try to reverse their decision to move to Texas, and that he is grateful for her effort.

Mayor Ireton says he is also thankful for the attempt Safran USA is making to keep some employees in Salisbury. The Mayor thanks David Ryan and Salisbury-Wicomico Economic Development (SWED), for their assistance in limiting the local effects of the company’s big move.

The letter from the CEO was addressed to Mayor Ireton just a day after he inquired about the unfortunate announcement of Salisbury’s Safran Labinal closing. He addresses reasons for the move based on a “changing business environment affecting both the aerospace and defense primes and their suppliers,” and “unfortunately for our Salisbury employees, LPS has received a steadily decreasing portion of the work from those platforms over the years.”

Salisbury’s Safran Labinal plant is set to move in June 2016.
