Somerset County Sheriff files for re-election

The Somerset County Sheriff filed for re-election on Monday.

According to Somerset County Sheriff Ronnie Howard, he filed for re-election on Monday, January 29. 

Howard was sworn in as Sheriff in December 2014. According to the County Sheriff's website, Sheriff Howard joined the ranks of the Maryland State Police on September 2, 1982, as a Cadet assigned to the Truck Weight Enforcement Division stationed at the Delmar Scale House in Wicomico County.

After graduating from the Training Academy in June 1984, Sheriff Howard was stationed at Barrack "T" Leonardtown, Barrack "V" Berlin and Barrack "X" Princess Anne.

He reportedly performed road patrol duties and was then reassigned to the Criminal Investigation Section. Sheriff Howard retired from the Maryland State Police in January 2008.

On February 1, 2008, Howard started his career with the Somerset County Sheriff's Office. In February 2010, he was appointed to the position of Chief Deputy by then Sheriff Robert Jones.
