UPDATE: Dorchester and Wicomico Co. approved for three day snow waiver

After missing more than a week of school due to snow, two local school systems have been approved for a waiver, making making up that missed time easier.
Dorchester County Public Schools says on Thursday State Superintendent Dr. Lillian Lowery, told Dr. Henry Wagner that they had been approved for the three day waiver that they requested. Students missed a total of 11 days this winter. This waiver, along with 5 snow days built into the calendar, and extending the school year two additional days, the students will meet the 180 day school year requirement.
Wicomico County Public Schools they too have been approved for a three day waiver by Dr. Lowery. Their students missed a total of nine days due to weather. Officials say they have revised the school calendar, changing a professional day to a regular school day, and extended the year, to make up the other six days needed to meet the 180 day requirement.
June 17th will now be the last day for students in both Dorchester and Wicomico Counties.
Somerset County says they are planning on discussing their options to make up missed days at a March 30th board meeting.
Worcester County has reportedly also filed a waiver with the state for three days, but hasn’t heard back yet.
