Update: Investigators release details into Salisbury drowning case

A newly released surveillance video sheds some light on the drowning death of 24-year-old year old Lamar Sheppard.

In the video, investigators can see Sheppard jumping into the Wicomico River.

Detectives determined that in the moments leading up to his drowning, Sheppard was being chased by three people after an apparent drug deal on Newton Street.

Police say Sheppard ran towards the boat ramp on Riverside drive and jumped into the water to hide. However, Sheppard could not swim.

According to reports, the people chasing him threw a dock hose into the water to help. However, Sheppard continued to struggle until a Good Samaritan got in the water and pulled him out.

That’s when the three chasing him allegedly ran away. Police say they’ve interviewed two of those three individuals and are looking for the third.

We’re told there are no signs of foul play in the drowning and there is no evidence to support criminal charges.
