OCEAN CITY, Md. –  Maryland State Police are investigating a crash involving a state trooper and a motorcyclist in Ocean City.

Police say the trooper was on duty, assisting the Ocean City Police Department during Bike Week events.

Maryland State Police say Trooper First Class Cody Shubert was driving an unmarked police car around 8:35 p.m. on Philadelphia Avenue. Police say as TFC Shubert approached the intersection on 12th Street, he saw a car driving without its lights on. TFC Shubert attempted to go through the intersection to stop that driver. At the same time, a three-wheel motorcycle tried to make a left from Philadelphia Avenue and crashed into the trooper’s car.

The male and female on the bike were airlifted to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional. They were later taken to Christiana Hospital, and remain in the hospital. TFC Shubert was taken to Atlantic General Hospital. He has since been released from the hospital. Maryland State Police are still investigating the crash.
